To support and advance the health and well-being of domesticated animals in Lincoln County, Oregon

The flagship of FOLCAS’s fundraising operations is the Pick of the Litter thrift store, opened in July 2009 in a building at the County Fairgrounds in Newport. Thanks to our ever-growing ranks of donors, shoppers, and volunteers, Pick of the Litter has become a thriving success, filled with terrific bargains and fabulous finds. There are new items every day!

We gratefully and cheerfully accept donations. Please bring in donations 10:00 AM through 3:30 PM on Tuesday through Saturday, and 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM on Sunday.

Clean, good quality items in good repair and working order are greatly appreciated.  We are unable to accept mattresses or large appliances.

If your donation is large and/or you will need help unloading, we ask that you call at least a day in advance so we can arrange for sufficient staff and receiving space.

Please note that there may be times, particularly during the coming months while we are transitioning to our new annex and store property, there may be times when we will be unable to receive donations during normal hours. If you are making a trip from far away, or if your donations are large in size or quantity, it is best to make receiving arrangements in advance by calling the store at 541-574-1861. Thank you for your understanding.

All pre–Dec. 2012 proceeds exclusively benefit the programs and special projects of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, including paying for spay/neuters for Shelter animals before they go to their "forever" homes (an expense that we have paid since 2009 and that now runs about $40,000 a year). Going forward, all proceeds benefit both the Shelter and other efforts to assist domesticated animals in Lincoln County.

"Pick of the Litter," established in 2009, is a volunteer operation, except for the store manager. Its success is entirely due to the cadre of hard-working and dedicated community members who give generously of their time and skills.

Volunteers are always needed. Please call the store or stop in and pick up a volunteer application if you’d like to join the fun!

Our volunteer team and the hours they donate to our efforts each month continue to grow, but we can always use more help. Our primary goal is to assure the long-term sustainability of the shelter, so every dollar we earn through store sales and donations helps toward that goal.
